Current Topics in Business Policy

This optional course analyzes new business situations, applying knowledge on Economics and Business Organization gained in other courses. The aim is to develop students’ capacity for applying this knowledge in real problems, and for communicating the conclusions obtained in a professional environment.

During the first few weeks, cases will be presented by both teachers and students. Students will have to prepare the cases beforehand so that in class they can summarize the key matters involved and explain possible lines for analysis. Student participation will be both voluntary and at the request of teachers.

Over the next few weeks, team projects will be presented and discussed. All students must participate actively in teamwork, both in analysis and in presentation and public debate, as well as in the preparation and review of different versions of a professional report on the project.

The course will be graded on the basis of three main elements: (1) the professional quality project to be drawn up, presented, defended and reviewed by each team; (2) active participation in class discussions; and (3) the final examination, which will basically cover the cases presented by both the teacher and the students. There will be a fair amount of reading and materials in the English language.
